clay, glaze, repurposed fivers, paper, wire
Each healthy tree felled is a reminder that “Forests precede mankind, deserts follow.” This memorable warning was written by Nani Palkhivala in the essay Ailing Planet: The Green Movement’s Role. Humanity has a way of fragmenting forests in the name of progress. I am grateful that Maudslay State Park has preserved this beautiful one. Julia has always been drawn to the unavoidable messiness of clay. Getting lost in the process of creating, she oscillates between mathematical forms and organic assemblages.
My work has been widely exhibited and is often inspired by the wild, natural world.
