Cusp

A cross section of a wheel thrown pot freezes the axial revolution of spun clay into a 2D profile.  This ¼ pot bookends two profile edges.  Each profile is a series of curves meeting at cusps.  Classic Delftware ceramics were often painted with imagery of the Age of Exploration;  ships on a horizon line at sea celebrated the cusp of “new” and “old” worlds.  The image on this pot is copied from plate issued to commemorate the 1969 Moon Landing, another cusp of worlds.  I was given this plate to celebrate my birth in 1969.
