Plato, in Timaeus, suggests matter is made of geometric solids, where each solid is made from a regular polygon. Five “Platonic Solids”: the tetrahedron cube, octahedron, dodecahedron, and the 20-sided icosahedron make up the material world. This sculpture suggests a descent into that molecular world through ever-decreasing icosahedrons in a fractal-like relationship.

Eric teaches math (and “The Art of Mathematics”) at Pingree School. He has five grown children, and lives in Newburyport with his wife, Diana.
